CMHC offers a 10% refund on mortgage loan insurance premiums and an extended 35 year amortization period for purchasing an energy-efficient home.
For a new purchase, the home must be either R2000 certified, have an EnerGuide Rating of 80, or be built by a member of a CMHC-eligible energy-efficient building program. If you are in a condominuim, the building must be 25% more energy efficient than if constructed to meet the requirements of the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB).
