City Green Building Blocks…Building Municipal Success Stories

City Green is excited to partner with BC municipalities to engage residents in simple and extraordinary actions to reduce energy and water use in their homes and buildings. With support from Environment Canada’s EcoAction Community Funding Program, City Green is developing template engagement campaigns that municipalities can use to promote energy and water conservation in their communities.

Over the next two years Building Blocks project will be launched in at least five municipalities in BC. Each municipality will select the engagement campaign pieces, or building blocks, that are right for them.

Some of the building blocks available to municipalities to construct their community engagement campaigns are

• Promotion of existing grants and financial incentives
• Custom assessment services, such as small business lighting assessments
• Product exchanges, such as low-flow shower heads
• Rebates, such as low-flow toilets, insulation, or time-of-sale home energy efficiency assessments
• Community outreach, such as mail outs, email campaigns, and displays

By empowering residents to reduce their energy and water consumption, municipalities can

• Reduce energy and water consumption
• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
• Drive investment in the local green economy
