Home Energy Assessments

Your Certified Energy Advisor will introduce you to energy efficiency and grant information and answer any questions you may have about the best upgrade options for your home.
In the first assessment, the Advisor will measure and record information about your home's windows, doors, space and hot water heating, ventilation, and insulation.
The average home built prior to 1980 has air leaks that add up to the size of a small basketball! Walk around the home with your Advisor when the fan is running to feel the leaks.
A safety check will be done to ensure there is no risk of your home's exhaust systems (fans, range hoods, dryer) pulling mid-efficient gas or oil furnace carbon monoxide gases  into the home.
Older heating systems may be wasting more than 30% of their fuel source whereas high efficient systems convert up to 90% or more of their fuel source into heat, saving you energy - and money!
Heat pumps are efficient electrical heat systems.  Some require ducting but others, like the one in this picture, are ductless or mini-split systems.
Open wood fireplaces draw heated air out of your home and cause significant drafts. Fireplace inserts control the air flow more effectively.
Heating water accounts for 18% of the energy use in an average Canadian home. Ask about the benefits of insulated pipes, or if a solar system would work for your home.
Please clear the way to the attic hatch for your Advisor who will need to check the insulation levels in your attic.
Many appliances are using energy - even when they are turned off! Plug them into the 'SmartMeter' to find out how much energy is being wasted. Then, consider turning them off with a power bar instead.
Your Advisor will use the on-site assessment data  to create an Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report of prioritized cost-effective upgrade recommendations - and to calculate your home's current and potential EnerGuide rating.
In the follow up assessment, your Advisor will want to see all the grant eligible products you chose to install, like programmable thermostats for electric baseboards.
Please save all your receipts! After confirming the products meet the program standards, your Advisor will complete the grant paperwork for you. All we need from you is your signature.
Your grant cheque will arrive from LiveSmart BC once the government has processed your file - and your energy savings will start right away!
