Save Big Bucks on Solar Hot Water in the City of Vancouver

"If you’ve been thinking about installing a solar hot water system on your home there is no better time to do it than right now."

The fall season is shaping up to be a shining success for solar hot water in BC. The Solar Community of Vancouver has increased their incentive offer to homeowners in the city with $4300 now available for solar hot water installations in both new and existing homes. This is up from $3500 for only new homes that has been available since the beginning of the year thanks to an increased commitment from Terasen Gas.

In order to take advantage of this substantial savings opportunity all you need is a SolarBC Registered Installer to carry out the work. These incentives are available to the first 30 applicants and systems must be installed by December 31, 2010. So if you’ve been thinking about installing a solar hot water system on your home there is no better time to do it than right now (please note, only homes with gas heated hot water are eligible).

"The City of Vancouver, Terasen Gas, Solar BC and Offsetters are providing this limited time offer in order to accelerate uptake of solar technology in our residential market," says Rachel Moscovich, Sustainable Development Program Analyst with the City. "By reducing the financial barrier, we aim to make solar more accessible to homeowners in Vancouver, to prove the viability of solar in our climate, build capacity and create new green jobs."

Systems installed under this incentive program must include a double-walled heat exchanger and leak detection – this means all Enerworks systems are currently eligible. Installers who provide Enerworks systems in the Lower Mainland are: Solace Homeworks, JB Solar and Terratek Energy Solutions.

Contact one of the following installers who will walk you through the process to installing solar hot water on your home. They will also take the Vancouver incentive off the total cost of the system upfront, so you will receive the discount right away.

"With our average system cost of $6900 this is a fantastic savings for homeowners interested in installing solar hot water," says Liz Kelly, SolarBC Project Manager. "And it couldn’t come at a better time, as we head into the last few months of the program. This should help tip the scales in favour of installing solar hot water for those homeowners who’ve only been thinking about it at this point."

Vancouver’s incentive program is part of their Solar Homes Strategy made possible through a partnership between SolarBC, City of Vancouver, Terasen Gas and Offsetters. Find out more about Vancouver on their Solar Community page or www.vancouver.ca/solar.
