Many inspectors will tell you that they are a “certified thermographer” but this does not necessarily mean that they are qualified to perform an infrared home inspection since there is no legal standard for thermogapher certification. An infrared camera is easy to use, but the image only shows differences in surface temperature. The intepretation of these images requires an understanding of thermodynamics, the thermal properties of building materials, building science, and the thermal conditions required for detecting specific building problems. (Read more about the importance of thermographer training on the SENWHI House Inspections blog.)
