Better Homes Energy Savings Program Condo and Apartment Rebate
The BC government has announced the launch of the Better Homes Energy Savings Program Condo and Apartment Rebate, available for income-qualified apartment renters and condo owners that supports the installation of high-performance electric heat pumps in individual suites in multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs). Eligible participants can access up to $5,000 for a heat pump and up to $3,500 for a heat pump water heater.
The first phase of the program launched on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and applies to suites in condo and apartment buildings that are six storeys and under, and are currently heated by electricity, such as electric baseboards. The program will be expanded in fall 2025 to include condos and apartments heated by fossil fuel (e.g., a gas-fired boiler).
General Eligibility Requirements:
- Upgrades must be installed by an program registered contractor.
- Heat pumps must be on the BC Hydro qualified product list
- Heat pump water heaters must be on the qualified product list (Tier 2, 3, or 4)
- Participants must fall under income level 1 or 2 as outlined by the CleanBC Energy Savings Program
- Participants must pre-register and receive an eligibility code before installing the upgrade
