Heritage Multi-Unit Retrofit Grant
Investigating embodied carbon in multi-unit heritage homes in the City of Vancouver with City Green Solutions, Vancouver Heritage Foundation, and Carbon Wise



City Green Solutions is collaborating with the Vancouver Heritage Foundation and Carbon Wise to deliver the Heritage Multi-Unit Retrofit Grant. The project is supporting up to 5 heritage homes in the City of Vancouver with the goal to encourage greenhouse gas reductions that preserve heritage character and build an understanding of embodied carbon in heritage homes. Accepted participants will benefit from the following:
- Provision of an embodied carbon analysis (up to $8,000 value) that includes:
- Pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide home evaluations
- Enhanced EnerGuide Report
- Cradle-to-grave Life Cycle Assessment
- Emissions reporting
- Access to retrofit incentives up to $5,000 for the completion of eligible upgrades:
- Heat pump
- Heat pump water heater
- Windows
- Insulation (attic, walls, basement/crawlspace)
- Electric service upgrade
- Induction cook top
Eligibility Requirements:
- The Participant must:
- Be the current legal owner of the participating property;
- Agree to upgrade switch either space heating to a heat pump or domestic hot water to electric (heat pump or resistance).
- Participate in applicable interviews, surveys, and photographs for the development of their case study.
- Complete upgrades within 18 months of their pre-retrofit evaluation
- The Property must be:
- Located in the City of Vancouver;
- Constructed prior to 1940 or be listed on the Vancouver Heritage Register (VHR);
- Be a single-family home, duplex, or side-by-side townhouse.
- Contain multiple dwelling units, or be in the process of creating them.
